One of the problems with out-of-office replies is that they are applied indiscriminately, especially if you’re on an e-mail list and your out-of-office message is set up incorrectly.

There’s an employee at our corporate office who’s on vacation right now. Well, the e-mail list address that he and I are both on just got blasted with spam, and his out-of-office message is hitting the entire list every time a spam gets registered by his computer. His out-of-office message is fairly basic — “I’ll be out until this date, please contact this person for further assistance” — but it’s amusing reading the subject lines.

The best by far?

Because that is what I’m thinking about when I’m at work. Really.
